5 common teenage health mistakes
As males and females, we all have many different hormones in our bodies, orchestrated by pituitary gland to trigger each hormone to start playing their part. Whether its to help us sleep, eat, relax, get moving, manage our body temperature or weight - and yet when you say ‘hormones’ we so readily mentally jump to ‘periods’ and women.
But boys also have all these hormones. And if we've got a girl or a boy who is starting to show those first puberty signs, symptoms like piling on the weight, losing energy or is tired all the time, then we can look at the ‘heath triangle’ - diet, stresses, environment - and we can start to bring it into balance.
For example, when there is high insulin, when we're eating largely a carbohydrate or sugary diet, testosterone levels can get high, or when our kids are over stimulated and always on the go (including screen time) how this affects their stress levels and the ability to digest food properly.
In our talk we look at how this health triangle affects our hormones and behaviours as we hit puberty and how we can help smooth the transition, including the importance of rebellion and how to manage it.
